No. 11 UCLA outslugs No. 16 Ohio State in Westwood

Probably didn’t expect Kaitlyn Terry to make a bigger contribution to No. 11 UCLA’s 14-6 run-rule win over No. 16 Ohio State with her bat than her arm but it was that type of game. Terry hit a grand slam and earned her 14th win of the season.
Ohio State reminded UCLA and Terry that they led the country in home runs. Sami Bewick and Jasmyn Burns hit solo shots against Terry in the first. The Bruin didn’t take long to respond.

UCLA loaded the bases in the second inning. A walk cut Ohio State’s lead and half. Then the lefty two-way decided to give herself the lead. Terry smashed her first career home run, giving the Bruins a lead they never surrendered.
Megan Grant started her big night in the second inning as well. She smoked a three-run blast down the right-field lead to push the lead to 8-2. Her swing in the fifth secured the win. She nearly hit a ball in the same place as her first home run as the grand slam put the run-rule in effect. Grant ended the night with seven RBIs. Kaniya Bragg also hit a home run in the win.

Terry threw a complete game, but it wasn’t the prettiest stat line. However, it’s hard to have one against Ohio State’s offense. After the Bruins’ big second inning, Ohio State went back to work. Burns hit her second home run of the night and 17th of the season. Kaitlyn Farley nearly had an inside-the-park home run before being thrown out at home. Although it resulted as an RBI triple to pull within three.
Despite UCLA putting two more runs on the board, the Buckeyes were one swing from being back in it in the fifth. The first three batters reach, giving Burns another chance with the bases loaded. She nearly had her third blast of the night, sending a ball to the warning track for a sacrifice fly. Terry had the last laugh. She picked up her sixth and seventh strikeout of the night, punching out Reagan Milliken and Farley to end the threat before Grant ended it in the home half.
Ohio State will seek the series split on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
