Before a Davis Diamond record of 2,754, Texas Tech was desperate to ruin the fun and achieve its first Top-10 win in 2025. Although it was unconventional at times, the Red Raiders did just that in a 7-2 win over Texas A&M. NiJaree Canady went the distance to secure the win for Texas Tech.

In reality, this was not the smoothest game played by either team. Both teams combined to commit seven errors in the game. Only four of the nine runs scored in the contest were earned. But the Red Raiders made the most of their opportunities when they presented themself.

First, matters got off to an inauspicious start for Texas A&M ace Emiley Kennedy in the first inning. Texas Tech got started early with a leadoff triple by Mihyia Davis. Davis scored just one batter later as a grounder to the right side was misplayed by KK Dement of Texas A&M for a 1-0 Red Raider lead. Next, Lauren Allred lifted a fast ball high into the Texas night for a two-run home run for a quick 3-0 advantage.

A&M immediately showed some resiliency. The Aggies answered back with a single run in the bottom half of the first. Kennedy Powell scored off of a looper in the infield off the bat of Olivia Johnson. Alexa Langliers couldn’t record the out, and the Red Raiders’ lead was trimmed to 3-1.

However, Texas Tech continued to apply pressure in the second inning. After a Powell error at third base allowed the bases to get loaded, Langliers forced in a run on a fielder’s choice for a 4-1 advantage. Next, a double steal allowed Hailey Toney to take home as the throw went to second base and not back to home in time for a 5-1 lead for Texas Tech.

This was a game that had a little bit of everything. Aside from the seven errors, there were three separate hit-by-pitch reviews. Additionally, Tech appeared to add to the lead in the third inning. Davis hit what appeared to be a sacrifice fly. However, it was ruled that Bailey Lindemuth left early on the play and was called out to retire the side.

Mac Barbara doubled in a run to close the gap to 5-2 in the fifth inning. But, a Victoria Valdez home run in the top of the seventh inning gave Canady all the insurance that she would need. The Stanford transfer fanned 10 Aggies on the night for her sixth victory of the season. Both teams will face off again tomorrow in the finale of the Texas A&M Invitational. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM local time.
