The Bruins continued their hot start to the season with a dominating 9-1 run-rule victory over Arkansas. Kaitlyn Terry went six innings only allowing one run for her eighth win of the season. As a result, the Bruins continue their strong start to the season.

Arkansas, who had scored 34 runs in four games at the Mary Nutter Classic, threatened in the first inning. Bri Ellis hammered a two-out double down the left field line to put two ducks on the pond. However, Terry got Courtney Day swinging as UCLA ended the frame with no runs scored.

Terry helped her own cause in the third inning as she started a rally by getting hit by a pitch for the Bruins’ first baserunner. A wild pitch would allow Terry to get to second base. Jessica Clements found a hole for a base hit, allowing the Bruins to take a 1-0 lead in the third inning.

Now, the Bruins were not done yet. Savannah Pola singled to center field to put two runners on for Jordan Woolery. Similar to yesterday’s win against Tennessee, Woolery got ahold of one up in the zone for a home run to left field. That big hit would give UCLA a 4-0 lead. Kaniya Bragg had a fourth straight hit for the Bruins that knocked Payton Burnham out of the game for Arkansas.

Now, Arkansas answered right back with a no-doubter by Ellis to bring the score to 4-1. That would be good for Ellis’ ninth home run in the young season. But, that would be all that Terry would allow the Razorbacks in the fourth inning.

UCLA looked to break open the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Clements singled to left field for her second hit of the game. Pola narrowly missed a home run but settled for a double off the fence. But, Woolery was intentionally walked to load the bases with one out. Additionally, Bragg hit a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 5-1. Cam Harrison got Seneca Curo to fly out to end the inning.

The Bruins add some additional insurance in the sixth inning. After loading the bases against Reis Beuerlein, Clements delivered again. She notched her third hit of the game to score two more bringing the lead to 7-1. Next, Woolery narrowly missed another home run to center field. But, she would settle for a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to seven, 8-1. Finally, Bragg notched her second hit of the game to force the run rule with a 9-1 score.

As a result, UCLA moves to 14-1 on the season. The Bruins will face Duke tomorrow for their final matchup in the Mary Nutter Classic. Comparatively, Arkansas finishes the tournament with the same record. The Razorbacks return home next for Wooo Pig Classic.
