No. 6 Texas A&M rallies to beat Auburn in extra innings

No. 23 Auburn couldn’t hold onto another lead as the Tigers dropped their fifth straight game, falling to No. 6 Texas A&M 5-4 in extra innings.
Auburn struck first and fast against Emiley Kennedy, loading the bases with a pair of walks and a single. Amelia Lech then lined her first career triple down the right field line, driving in all three runs. After a 40-pitch first inning, the All-American Kennedy eventually settled in, putting up six scoreless frames to help the Aggies rally.
Icess Tresvik started in the circle for Auburn, turning in three scoreless innings before being chased in the fourth when Amari Harper hammered a 2-0 pitch for a two-run homer to center field, cutting the Tigers’ lead to one.
Auburn turned to SJ Geurin in relief. Kennedy ran into trouble in the fourth, but induced a pop-out from Tresvik to strand the bases loaded.
After a scoreless fifth, Kennedy Powell singled to center, stole second, and took third on a groundout. In the sixth, Harper lined out to left field, allowing Powell to tag up and score on a dropped throw at the plate. Both Geurin and Kennedy worked clean seventh innings, but the Aggies capitalized in extra innings.

KoKo Wooley slapped a one-out single to short and stole second. Powell then singled again, driving in Wooley to give the Aggies its first lead. Mya Perez added insurance, doubling on a fly ball that clanked off the center field wall, bringing in Powell.
Heading into the eighth, Kennedy had retired 11 straight batters. Freshman AnnaLea Adams ended that streak, belting a one-out solo home run to cut the deficit to one. A two-out single from Anna Wohlers brought the winning run to the plate for Auburn, but Lech grounded out to third to end the game.
The Aggies completed the comeback, scoring all five of their runs in the final five innings. The Aggies will look for their first series win of the year after dropping last week’s series to Florida. Auburn hopes to avoid a six-game losing streak and earn its first conference win of the season on Saturday at noon ET.
