No. 8 Texas A&M notched its most impressive wins of the season, downing No. 5 Florida twice in Tallahassee. The results couldn’t be any more different.

Game 1

No. 8 Texas A&M found a way to win despite no Koko Wooley in the lineup and Emily Kennedy having an off day in the circle. The Aggies rallied down three runs to beat No. 5 Florida State 6-3 in extra innings.

Kennedy Powell, who was in the leadoff spot for Wooley, poked a ball into right field for the go-ahead RBI. Mac Barbara powered in the insurance runs. The San Diego State transfer drove a long single to the wall to collect a pair of RBIs. Barbara also hit a the game-tying two-run double off Julia Apsel in the fifth. She finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBIs and an intentatoinal walk.

Grace Sparks had an excellent relief outing coming in for Kennedy after the third inning. Sparks’ mix of drop and change seemed to throw the Noles lineup off-balanced. Sparks gave up a pair of singles in the fourth, but allowed two baserunners the final four innings. Trisha Ford is still figuring out her deep pitching staff and their roles. Sparks clearly is a good complement to Kennedy’s hard stuff. Sparks earned the win, going five innings, allowing three hits and a walk.

We’d be remisued to not talk about Kramer Eschete’s outfield assist to keep the lead at two in the fourth.

Annabelle Widra had a another quality outing. She started off well and was uber efficent getting through four innings in 45 pitches. Her only mistake early was a bomb Allie Enight hit. She exited for Apsel after a leadoff single in the fifth.

Florida State’s lineup didn’t crush Kennedy by any means. The Noles got it done in the first inning with simple, strict at-bats. The Noles scored three runs off flares and balls through the infield. They also didn’t extend the stike zone, making Kennedy earn every out. She did strand the bases loaded in the second, a big moment in the team’s comeback.

Game 2
The Aggies didn’t wait long to take the lead in the nightcap. A six-run second inning fueled Texas’s 11-4 win to leave Tallahasse with a Top-10 doubleheader sweep.

Makenna Ried walked three straight batters to load the bases in the second inning, throwing one strike. She exited for Ashtyn Danley. Three runs came across on two fielder’s choice and a hit-by-pitch. Enright hit a bases-clearing double – she was thrown out at third – to finish off the six-run frame.

Eschte drove in another in the thrid inning. Mya Perez and Amari Harper tacked on three more runs to in the fifth to make the lead 10. Perez homered in the seventh after the Noles extended the game.

Florida State didn’t go down without a fact, denying the run-rule loss. They knock Sidne Peters out following a solid outing. The Noles started to hit around freshman, scoring four runs against her.

Ford turned back to Kennedy to close things out, throwing two scoreless frames.

Texas A&M finshes the Florida trip with a game against Southeastern Louisiana before returning home to host Texas State and Texas Tech twice among others. The Noles will host Dugout Club Classic with FGCU, Mercer and Charleston next week.
