Sam Landry propels No. 2 Oklahoma to doubleheader sweep over No. 18 Arkansas

Game 1: Oklahoma 7, Arkansas 0
With high winds being a factor in Arkansas this weekend, the safe bet was that we would see many crooked numbers on the scoreboard at Bogle Park. But, at least for game one, the Sooner pitching stole the show. Sam Landry threw a complete-game shutout for her seventh win of the season. The shutout paved the way for Oklahoma to win its first road SEC game of the season, 7-0.
Landry, who had to sit out the first weekend of the season due to a concussion, only allowed three hits in the game. The biggest jam of the game came in the first inning. The Razorbacks got their first two hitters on base. Reagan Johnson walked, and Kailey Wyckoff smashed a single. But, Landry was able to retire Bri Ellis with a strikeout and induce a double play ball to get out of the inning. The Razorbacks were only able to get two hits in the remaining six innings.
Robyn Herron kept the Sooners’ bats off balance most of the game. Nelly McEnroe-Marinas hit a solo home run in the first inning. But that’s all Oklahoma got until the final frame when Oklahoma exploded for six runs. It was the usual suspects that have been hot for the Sooners as of late. McEnroe-Marinas, Gabbie Garcia, Ailana Agbayani, and Cydney Sanders all drove in runs in the 6th inning.
McEnroe-Marinas went 2-4 with two RBIs. Garcia and Sanders also had a couple of RBIs, with Agbayani chipping in for one. Important to note that even with Oklahoma struggling at the plate through the middle innings, they drew eight walks in the game. Those walks did drive up the pitch count for Herron, which ultimately led to Oklahoma getting to her in the final inning
Game 2: Oklahoma 6, Arkansas 4
The Sooners came back from a pair of one-run deficits to complete the doubleheader sweep and secure the series with a 6-4 victory. A couple of timely home runs and two shutdown innings from Landry were enough to get Oklahoma to 25-0 on the season and 5-0 in conference play. Kasidi Pickering and Isabela Emerling both hit critical long balls to get the sweep for the Sooners.

A pair of RBIs in the form of a single and a groundout from Ella McDowell and Raigan Kramer gave Arkansas a 2-0 lead in the 4th inning. Oklahoma added a single run in the third from an RBI double by Gabbie Garcia. She was eventually thrown out at third trying to extend the double into a triple. The hit gave Garcia an 11-game hitting streak, which ties the longest by a Sooner Freshman. In the 5th, the Sooners took the lead at 3-2 from a towering home run from Emerling.
The back-and-forth game continued to the 6th as the Razorbacks got back those two runs to reclaim the lead at 4-3. An McDowell single and sacrifice squeeze from Ataliya Rio was the damage that put Arkansas back on top. Then, Pickering hit the second no-doubter home run of the game to chase Payton Burnham from the contest, with it knotted at 4. Sydney Barker got a pinch hit walk to give the Sooners the eventual game-winner at 5-4.
In the 7th, an RBI single from McEnroe-Marinas gave Oklahoma some insurance and scored Maya Bland from second base. Landry came in to pitch two scoreless innings to earn the save for Oklahoma. The Sooners will look for their second consecutive SEC series sweep tomorrow at 11:00 AM.
