The rankings below are not indicative of the Softball America Top 25. The Softball America composite rankings average all major College Softball polls and the RPI and KPI rankings. All stats include games played from Monday to Monday each week and do not include Tuesday’s games.

Movers and Shakers of the Week

Arkansas is our Softball America Composite Rankings’ biggest positive mover this week. After winning two of three from Tennessee, the Razorbacks moved up six spots from No. 17 to No. 11. Similarly, Florida State had a very impressive week, going 4-0 with a sweep over Duke and a midweek win over Alabama to jump up to No. 6 this week. Lastly, trending up in a big way are the Clemson Tigers. The Tigers swept Syracuse over the weekend by a combined score of 33-1 to enter the rankings at No. 23.

Conversely, Tennessee dropped three spots from No. 9 to No. 12 with the aforementioned series loss to Arkansas. The Sooner state brings the other two teams that dropped three spots with single losses in series they were favored to sweep in. Oklahoma dropped from No. 1 to No. 4 following the loss to Missouri. Then, the Cowgirls dropped from No. 12 to No. 15 with the loss to Baylor. Important to note, Oklahoma’s RPI of No. 12 was the biggest contributing factor for the drop.

Offensive Prowess

Ohio State, Texas, and Mississippi State were the most impressive at the plate this weekend. The Buckeyes scored 60 runs this week as they went 4-0. There were a total of 13 home runs hit by Ohio State to bring their total to 71, which leads the country. Likewise, the Texas bats have woken up over the last two weeks. The Longhorns scored 32 runs in a three-game sweep over Auburn. Particularly impressive, Texas hit .507 for the series. Florida State was incredibly impressive at the plate against Duke. The Seminoles scored 33 runs combined in the three games over the Blue Devils

This is Where We Stop You

Even though the Cowgirls’ offense struggled to provide consistent run support, the pitching was solid. In three games, Oklahoma State had a combined 1.22 ERA but was led by Ruby Meylan, who did not give up an earned run all weekend. One of the few concerns for Arizona this season has been whether they can pitch well enough to compete for a championship. They only relinquished five runs this weekend in winning two of three from Arizona State. Devyn Netz led the way by giving up just one earned run in 8.1 innings pitched over the weekend. Finally, the Arkansas pitching made a huge difference in winning two of three over Tennessee. In the three-game series against the Sooners, the Razorbacks staff had an ERA of 7.33. However, this weekend, that staff ERA was 2.00. The pitching consistency could be the difference in how deep of a run Arkansas can make.
