Softball America Stars of the Week: Canady, Grein, Griggs, O'Gorman

The Softball America staff will pick four student-athletes as our college softball players of the week following the latest slate of games. Our award system isn’t necessarily stat-based but rather players who left a lasting impact as we watched games from the previous week. Who changed the tune of their teams? Who made the headlines? Who might be the breakout star during the season?
NiJaree Canady, P, Texas Tech
The Texas Tech superstar delivered in the Red Raiders’ biggest series of the season. Canady appeared in all three games against Arizona, throwing over 300 pitches. She threw 17 innings, allowing four runs on 11 hits and striking out 13 Wildcats. Canady also picked up a single as a batter.
Lyndsey Grein, P, Oregon
Grein becomes the first player to earn Star of the Week honors three times. Once again, she led the Ducks to a pair of marquee wins. She threw 11.1 scoreless innings against UCLA, allowing eight hits and striking out 13 across all three games in the series. Grein leads college softball with 25 wins this season.

Kylie Griggs, OF, Pitt
Griggs had a pair of three-hit games against Virginia Tech, helping Pitt claim its first-ever series against a ranked opponent. She had the walk-off blooper in the series opener. In the rubber match, she went 3-for-3 with a walk and a double while scoring twice. Griggs reached base in all three games of the series and in Pitt’s run-rule win over Penn State earlier in the week, extending her on-base streak to 14 straight games.
Lexi O’Gorman, OF, Nevada
O’Gorman didn’t start the series opener, but made sure to make the most of her chances to leave a lasting impression on head coach Victoria Hayward. She came into the game in the fifth, delivering a two-run single in the sixth and the walk-off RBI in the seventh to complete the comeback on Thursday versus Utah State. O’Gorman got the start on Friday, hitting a grand slam and driving in six runs to help Nevada stay atop the Mountain West standings.
