Softball America Stars of the Week: Reasner, Rodriguez, McEnroe-Marinas, Grein, Sokolsky

The Softball America staff will pick four student-athletes as our college softball players of the week following the latest slate of games. Our award system isn’t necessarily stat-based but rather players who left a lasting impact as we watched games from the previous week. Who changed the tune of their teams? Who made the headlines? Who might be the breakout star during the season?
Cassie Reasner, INF, Kentucky
Who was going to play shortstop for Kentucky this season was a massive preseason question. However, Cassie Reasner has filled in nicely. And in the first SEC series she looked like Erin Coffel. Reasner hit a go-ahead home run in every game of the series and finished with 10 RBIs.
Kat Rodriguez, INF, North Carolina
The Tar Heel infielder has had a career year thus far. Rodriguez batted .636 with a double, home run and seven RBIs, while scoring six runs this week against Michigan and in the sweep of Pitt. The graduate transfer is already up to 40 RBIs this year. She came into the season with 61 career RBIs.

Nelly McEnroe-Marinas, INF, Oklahoma
The Oklahoma captain brought it during her first SEC series. She went 6-for-11 against the Gamecocks. She had a RBI in the series opener and was a part of both runs in the finale. Her highlight moment came in the series clincher when she hit a pair of three-run homers, including one to retake the lead in the fifth.
Lyndsey Grein & Elise Sokolsky, RHP, Oregon
We cheated with this one but the two Ducks pitchers did so well it was too hard to pick one. Both Grein, our first repeat Star of the Week, and Sokolsky tossed complete game shutouts against Florida State this past weekend. Grein tossed a one-hitter, striking out five and allowing one walk. Sokolsky allowed two hits and only threw 84 pitches in the win.
