The first weekend of the 2025 college softball season was certainly wild. Only 10 teams from our original Preseason Top 25 poll remain undefeated. That means we see a lot of movement in our latest rankings.

FAU, Mississippi State, Oregon and South Carolina join the group. Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, UCLA and Texas A&M form the top five teams.

1. Florida (6-0) (Last Week’s Ranking: 1)

The Gators took care of business in Tampa. Their marque win was a 13-1 thrashing against Michigan. Freshman Taylor Shumaker hit five home runs in her first week.

2. Texas (6-0) (2)

The Longhorns’ offense has been rolling, led by Reese Atwood, who has already collected 10 RBIs. Leighann Goode has stepped in seamlessly at shortstop.

3. Oklahoma (6-0) (3)

The Sooners’ trip to California was met with a couple of extra-inning battles. However, they came out on top against San Diego State and Long Beach State.

4. UCLA (5-0) (5)

UCLA’s pitching was as good as advertised in the first five games. Taylor Tinsley, Kaitlyn Terry and Addisen Fisher only allowed two earned runs.

5. Texas A&M (6-0) (7)

The Aggies needed to rally late to beat Utah State and Baylor. Emiley Kennedy looked like Emiley Kennedy. Mac Barbara hit three home runs in her first weekend in College Station.

6. Tennessee (5-1) (6)

The Lady Vols had an overall good weekend outside a pretty poor inning against Nebraska. Karlyn Pickens pitched well. Tennessee got good innings from Sage Mardjetko and Erin Nuwer as well.

7. Florida State (4-1) (10)

The Noles responded in a big way after their Opening Day loss to Oklahoma State. Kennedy Harp could make this sophomore class look even stronger if she keeps swinging the bat like she did this past weekend.

8. Texas Tech (5-1) (9)

Truth be told, Texas Tech didn’t play great softball. However, an extra-inning loss to Mississippi State is the only blemish on the Red Raiders’ record after a comeback win over Nebraska. It helps to have NiJaree Canady.

9. Oklahoma State (2-2) (4)

The Cowgirls were one of the biggest disappointments of opening week. Despite a solid win against Florida State, Oklahoma State fell flat in the rematch and in a matchup against LA Tech. This talented squad has a chance to bounce back with upcoming games against UCLA, Texas A&M, and Alabama in Clearwater.

10. LSU (5-0) (12)

The Tigers displayed their excellent pitching staff to open the season. It’s a good sign when Sydney Berzon is the only pitcher giving up runs, even with a 0.58 ERA. Also, Tori Edwards had quite a weekend in her first time as a starter.

11. Arizona (4-1) (14)
12. Alabama (4-1) (11)
13. Arkansas (5-0) (13)
14. Georgia (5-0) (17)
15. Missouri (4-1) (15)
16. Duke (3-2) (8)
17. Nebraska (3-2) (21)
18. Virginia Tech (5-0) (22)
19. FAU (6-0) (NR)
20. Liberty (5-0) (20)
21. Mississippi State (4-1) (NR)
22. Oregon (5-0) (NR)
23. Northwestern (3-2) (18)
24. Baylor (3-2) (16)
25. South Carolina (5-0) (NR)
