Softball America Top 25 Rankings: Week 3

Parity in college softball seems to be at an all-time high. The Softball America staff thought this was one of the toughest polls to put together. Only a few teams have cemented themselves as early-season favorites, while a large chunk of teams are still figuring it out in certain areas.
The top eight of this poll entering the third week of the season felt like a consensus among the votes but outside of that the opinions differed.
Texas takes the top spot after taking down Texas Tech twice, and Florida splits with Duke. After perfect weekends at the Clearwater Invitational, both Auburn and San Diego State enter the Top 25 poll.
1. Texas (11-0) (Last Week’s Ranking: 2)
The Longhorns jump into the top spot after taking down Texas Tech twice. Teagan Kavan looks even better as a sophomore and the offense continues to impress.
2. Oklahoma (10-0) (3)
The Sooners handled their business run-ruling Baylor twice including a five-inning perfect game from Sam Landry. Ella Parker was also nearly impossible to get out this weekend.
3. Florida (13-1) (1)
The Gators fall two spots after suffering their first loss to Duke. Florida also run-ruled the Blue Devils this weekend. The pitching behind Keagan Rothrock has been a little shaky.
4. UCLA (9-1) (4)
The Bruins were two outs away from leaving Clearwater with a perfect record. Nevertheless, wins over Alabama and Oklahoma State were added to the resume. The youthful offense has looked good out of the gates. Now the Bruins have to maintain that with a gauntlet of teams at the Mary Nutter next week.
5. Florida State (8-1) (7)
Florida State scored 41 runs in four games in Clearwater. Kennedy Harp is an early candidate for Player of the Year. Annabelle Widra and Jazzy Francik have been tremendous additions in the circle.

6. LSU (10-0) (10)
The Tigers look good on both sides right now after dominating Virginia Tech and Northwestern this weekend. The trio of Sydney Berzon, Jayden Heavener and Tatum Clopton have been tremendous thus far.
7. Tennessee (10-1) (6)
The Lady Vols dropped a spot mainly because the teams ahead of them have more quality wins. Tennessee has handled its business and heads to California to play Oregon and UCLA.
8. Texas A&M (10-1) (5)
The Aggies will likely look back and kick themselves for losing to Oklahoma State after being up three runs with Emiley Kennedy in the circle but these things happen. Texas A&M played with fire against Virginia and Charlotte, and it doesn’t get any easier as they’ll visit Florida State for a couple of games next week.
9. Arizona (10-1) (11)
The Wildcats’ offense didn’t skip a beat even without Dakota Kennedy in the lineup this weekend. It helps when Miranda Stoddard hits six home runs. Arizona has an upcoming battle with Texas next week.
10. Arkansas (10-0) (13)
Truthfully the Razorbacks are the beneficiary of somewhat of a mess in this tier of the rankings. Arkansas’ best win thus far was on Opening Day against Texas State and Madison Azua. Bri Ellis is currently hitting .600 with seven home runs and 24 RBIs.
11. Georgia (9-0) (14)
12. Oklahoma State (5-4) (9)
13. Texas Tech (8-3) (8)
14. Nebraska (8-2) (17)
15. Duke (8-3) (16)
16. Mississippi State (9-1) (21)
17. Auburn (11-0) (NR)
18. San Diego State (8-2) (NR)
19. Virginia Tech (8-2) (18)
20. Liberty (8-3) (20)
21. Oregon (10-1) (22)
22. South Carolina (10-0) (25)
23. Alabama (5-5) (12)
24. Missouri (6-5) (15)
25. FAU (9-2) (19)
