Softball America Top 25 Rankings: Week 5

This week felt a bit more normal as we jump into conference play this upcoming week. Arizona jumps into the Top Five after a great week in California. South Carolina is the biggest mover after remaining undefeated after sweeping a series at Duke. A pair of ACC teams join the Top 25 poll after extending their winning streaks.

1. Texas (20-1) (Last Week’s Ranking: 1)

The Longhorns had a clean week back at home with a bit of a battle from South Florida.

Next Up: Texas heads to Columbus for the Ohio State Tournament, which includes a battle with the Buckeyes, our 26th team in the poll.

2. Oklahoma (19-0) (2)

It was business as usual for the Sooners aside from an extra-inning scare from Bowling Green.

Next Up: The Sooner host also undefeated South Carolina for its first SEC series.

3. Florida (22-1) (3)

Florida collected five run-rule wins this past week.

Next Up: The Gators head to Texas to visit Houston in a mid-week and open SEC play in College Station in a Top-Five matchup with the Aggies.

4. Arizona (21-2) (7)

The Wildcats went 6-0 in California with a crazy win over UCLA and a pair of run-rule victories against San Diego State and Cal State Fullerton.

Next Up: Arizona returns home for its first Big 12 series against UCF.

5. Texas A&M (20-2) (5)

The Aggies’ defense was not sharp as they split the pair of games with Texas Tech.

Next Up: Texas A&M hosts Florida to start its SEC season and the biggest series of the weekend.

6. LSU (18-1) (6)

The Tigers netted their first marquee win of the season by beating UCLA, but followed it up by losing to Cal State Fullerton.

Next Up: LSU is back at Tiger Park to host ULM, South Alabama and Minnesota.

7. UCLA (18-4) (4)

The Bruins now have four one-run losses this season after falling just short to Arizona and LSU at the Judi Garman.

Next Up: UCLA returns to Easton Stadium to face LMU, Sac State and San Diego State.

8. Florida State (16-3) (9)

The Noles scored 61 runs over the weekend.

Next Up: After a pair of mid-week games against Jacksonville and UNF, Florida State heads to Jane Sanders Stadium to face Oregon and Oregon State.

9. South Carolina (19-0) (17)

The Gamecocks rolled past Duke in a series sweep and are one of two remaining undefeated teams.

Next Up: South Carolina faces Youngstown State during the week before going to Norman to face also undefeated Oklahoma.

10. Arkansas (19-1) (10)

Arkansas bullied a pair of Big Ten teams at Bogle Park.

Next Up: The Hogs head to Ole Miss to face the Rebels, who have won 13 straight games.
