Introduction to the Composite Rankings and Statistics

The rankings below are not indicative of the Softball America Top 25. These rankings average all the major College Softball polls along with RPI and KPI rankings. The three tables are a breakdown of key components of measurable success for offense, pitching/defense and overall team success. Lastly, the statistics below are based on 2024 season-ending data and will be updated each week through the season

A Look Towards 2025

The 2025 College Softball season is finally upon us. With a loaded opening weekend looming, we unload our preseason Composite Rankings. The 2025 season looks more open than it has in recent years after four straight national championships for the Oklahoma Sooners.

Offensive Statistics

Looking at the best-hitting teams of the year, the firepower of Texas and Florida pops off the page. However, Tennessee, UCLA and Nebraska have clear question marks in the lineup. Do they have enough offensive talent to reach the Women’s College World Series? Can teams that had a sub .300 team batting average like Missouri, Alabama and Arkansas improve at the plate?

Pitching/Defensive Statistics

Perhaps the biggest cliché in sports is that defense wins championships. Although, more times than not that moniker does ring true. Florida State will have the offensive firepower to return to Oklahoma City, but can they lower last year’s 3.71 ERA? The addition of Nijaree Canady will improve the astronomical 6.13 ERA Texas Tech had a year ago. Will she get enough help from her supporting cast?

Team Statistics

There’s something said for having a battle-tested team in May. No team may be able to say that more than the Oklahoma State Cowgirls. That starts with a pair of games against Florida State. With so many intangibles such as SOS, Quad 1 wins, and RPI it makes these early season tournament games more important than ever.
