The below rankings are not indicative of the Softball America Top 25. The composite rankings will average all major College Softball polls. RPI and KPI will be incorporated into the polls in weeks to come as new data is in place. All stats are inclusive of games played from Monday to Sunday each week and does not include Tuesday’s games.

The Clearwater Invitational Dominates the Headlines

I know all of us had Auburn and San Diego State as two of the biggest stories coming out of Clearwater, right? Well, the Aztecs and the Tigers came out of the tournament tested and undefeated. But, did they do enough to crack the Top 25 in week two of the composite rankings?

Well, That Was Different

On one hand, we have a team like Arizona who is rich in tradition and sits among the blue bloods of Collegiate Softball. Arizona appears to be continuing that as the Wildcats are second in batting average, OPS, and Slugging Percentage as they have jumped out to a 10-1 start. However, what you wouldn’t have on your bingo card is the likes of Nebraska, Stanford, and South Carolina getting it done at the plate.

The Gamecocks are averaging more than eight runs per game on their way to a hot 10-0 start, which includes two come-from-behind wins over Virginia. Likewise, Nebraska and Stanford are averaging more than 10 runs per game. The Cardinal are leading our Top 25 in seven of the 10 offensive categories including an incredible .460 batting average. However, the schedule gets much tougher as Stanford has a pair of matchups against Arizona and must face Texas this week.

The SEC is Dominating in the Circle

The Southeastern Conference is earning its stripes in the circle. Eight teams hold an ERA of under 2.00 through two weeks of play. It remains to be seen if that can continue throughout the gauntlet of conference play. However, it’s paving the way for great starts for a few teams that we’ll point out.

LSU leads the way with a 0.78 ERA and has six shutouts in their first 10 games of the season. That fantastic pitching was on display this weekend as the Tigers knocked off Northwestern, and Virginia Tech twice. Tennessee did not face a ranked opponent this weekend, but they shut out their opponent in every game. Sage Mardjetko finished off the weekend with a complete game one-hit shutout. Oklahoma had their second perfect game of the season as Sam Landry was electric in the Sooners’ finale against Baylor. Lastly, Arkansas has shown a ton of improvement early on in the season. Robyn Herron and Payton Burnham have helped the Razorbacks get off to a perfect 10-0 start.

Most Impressive and Most Disappointing

You have to start with our two newest entries into the Composite Top 25 this week with Auburn and San Diego State. The most impressive aspect of watching the Tigers play this year is that they can win pitcher’s duels and shootouts. 6-0 in Clearwater is no small accomplishment. Auburn has a real chance to start the season 21-0 before SEC play begins at Mississippi State.

Likewise, San Diego State put their name on the map by taking Oklahoma to extra innings in the first weekend. The big question is how will the Aztecs handle success. Finally, Florida State seems primed for a deep run to Oklahoma City this year. The Seminoles are hitting the ball like we would expect coming into the season. However, they have shown a ton of improvement in the circle led by Annabelle Widra and Jazzy Francik who are 5-0 combined with an ERA under 0.50.
