Talons 4, Volts 0

The Volts’ Rachel Garcia and Talons’ Georgina Corrick earned starts in Saturday’s game in Norman, Oklahoma.

It was smooth sailing for both arms until the third inning. After Sierra Sacco singled with one out and stole second, Hannah Flippen drove her in to take a 1-0 lead.

Another scoreless inning for both sides in the fourth made way for the Talons to add insurance in the fifth.

Sacco and Sharlize Palacios singled, bringing Flippen to the plate. The former Utah great came through again for the Talons. An RBI single from Flippen then chased Garcia from the game. Facing reliever Payton Gottshall, Caroline Jacobsen also brought in two more on an RBI single of her own.

From there, four runs was plenty enough for Corrick. The Talons starter was stellar in Norman, tossing a complete-game shutout and striking out seven. With the win, the Talons continue to hover near the top of the league standings following the 4-0 victory.

Bandits 11, Blaze 3

The Bandits hammered the Blaze 11-3 on Saturday. In the top of the second, Bella Dayton blasted a double to score the game’s first run. Morgan Zerkle added two more on an RBI double of her own. Then, Skylar Wallace singled, plating the Bandits’ fourth run of the inning.

The Blaze responded in the home half of the third. Rookie Ana Gold singled, breaking up the shutout, and Danielle Gibson brought in a run to cut the deficit in half.

It was rookie Devyn Netz that delivered the big blow for the Bandits, though. In the top of the fourth, the former Arizona two-way leveled a three-run homer to left field.

A scoreless fifth and sixth brought the Bandits’ 7-2 lead into the seventh inning. There, the Bandits padded the lead with a four-run frame. Cori McMillan singled in a run, and Sydney McKinney blasted a three-run homer to blow the game wide open. The Blaze got one back in the home half on a Korbe Otis RBI single, but the damage had long been done.

Bandits pitchers Lexi Kilfoyl and Odicci Alexander combined for six innings, with Alexander earning the win. Taylor McQuillan then finished the final frame to seal the win. For the Blaze, rookie Emma Lemley went the distance, surrendering all 11 runs.
