Team Lorenz Walks Off, Team Kilfoyl Collects a Win
Day two of Series Five included a walk-off from Team Lorenz as Amanda Lorenz heads into the final day of AU Softball Season Five with a large lead following a comeback win on Saturday and a redeeming win for Team Kilfoyl.
Team Kilfoyl 3, Team Corrick 2
After scoring just one run in Friday’s outing, captain Lexi Kilfoyl and her team made adjustments and came out aggressive on offense in game two of Series Five.
“I put myself in a leadership role when I am on the mound because I am the one who is in control of the game,” Kilfoyl said. “So I think when I have myself together on the mound, and when I am loose and playing free, it frees up the entire team to do the same. I told (my team) to stick to our game plan and keep putting balls in play and the balls are going to fall eventually. Yesterday, the plays just didn’t fall into our hands, but today it went in our favor.”
Immediately in the first inning with Peyton St. George in the circle for Team Corrick, Kayla Kowlick singled to center field with two outs to score Sydney McKinney.
Team Corrick quickly stole that early energy and after Aubrey Leach singled to center field, Sis Bates responded with a solo shot to right field off of Kathryn Sandercock to take the lead.
Team Kilfoyl evened up the scoreboard in the second when McKinney singled to left field and Morgan Zerkle fumbled the ball allowing Sarah Willis to score.
Captains Georgina Corrick and Lexi Kilfoyl both entered the circle in the fourth inning and kept the bats quiet until Team Kilfoyl got ahold of Corrick. After Kowlick doubled and Corrick hit a batter, Claire Davidson singled to second base allowing the ‘Purple’ team to take the lead that led them to bringing home their first win of the series.
MVP honors were awarded to Kilfoyl (1520 total points), Kowalick (860 total points) and Davidson (1032 total points).
Team Lorenz 5, Team Ocasio 4
Down two runs in the fifth, Erin Coffel sent a two-run home run to left field, and a whole new ball game formed for Team Lorenz. Into extra innings, it was a bunt from Coffel that moved Hannah Flippen to third and a passed ball from Odicci Alexander that led to a walk-off for the ‘Gold’ team.
“To be honest the home run was great, but to get the bunt down, I practice that every day before I start hitting practice. I think that is a little thing that gets overlooked sometimes, so to get it down was a huge thing for the Team Lorenz win,” Coffel said.

Similar to game one, the bats were hot right out of the gate, as Delanie Wisz ripped a shot over the left field wall for a three-run home run for Team Ocasio.
Team Lorenz fought back in the second with two doubles from Taylor Edwards and Jessi Warren off Megan Faraimo to score two runs.
Payton Gottshall got the start in the circle for Team Lorenz, but after just two innings, Mariah Mazon came in for relief. Wisz continued to provide at the plate and with speed on the base path from Skylar Wallace, the runs kept flowing, but that would be the last of scoring for the ‘Blue’ team.
Aleshia Ocasio put herself into the game and struggled to keep runners off the bases and that’s when Erin Coffel delivered a two-run home run to change the game.
MVP honors were awarded to Coffel (1426 total points), Warren (850 total points) and Wisz (1390 total points).
