Trisha Ford needed Emiley Kennedy at her best to lead No. 3 Texas A&M to a series win over No. 4 LSU. The lefty delivered three hitless innings in relief to secure the 9-7 win in College Station.

It was a tough outing for Jayden Heavener as the freshman failed to get out of the first inning. The lefty allowed six free passes before allowing her first hit of the game. Texas A&M’s nine-hole hitter Kramer Eschete hit a ball over the outstretched glove of Jadyn Laneaux for a bases-clearing double. Kennedy Powell singled to extend the lead to seven after Ashely Vallejo entered for Heavener.

LSU’s potent offense wouldn’t go down without a fight. Avery Hodge and Danieca Coffey reached on back-to-back bunts to push Aggie starter Sydney Lessentine out of the game. Grace Sparks entered and the Tigers keyed in on her. Maci Bergeron earned an RBI single that a diving Eschete couldn’t corral. Tori Edwards as she has all season, came through for LSU. The redshirt freshman absolutely crushed a ball over the David Diamond scoreboard for a grand slam to make it 7-5.

Lessentine re-entered the game to start the fifth and was not as sharp as before. The freshman walked Jalia Lassiter and allowed a single to Bergeron. She threw three wild pitches to Edwards before walking her and giving up a run. Kennedy replaced Lessentine and limited the damage to two runs after an LSU sacrifice fly to pull within one.

Vallejo pitched very well in relief to give her offense a chance. Mac Barbara drove in a run in the fourth and another in the sixth by beating out a double play ball. She went 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on three runs.

LSU will try to avoid the sweep on Sunday 2 p.m. ET, likely turning to ace Sydney Berzon, while the Aggies could be another bullpen day.
