As Softball America grows its coverage at all levels, we continue our recruiting spotlight series with Maggie Turner, a catcher and utility player from Texas. Though her primary position is behind the plate, her strengths reside in being able to step into any situation on the field to help her team excel.

What is your favorite travel ball memory?

Hitting my first home run in Iowa as my grandpa had flown in from California and got to the field only a couple of minutes before. My great aunt and uncle, who are from Iowa, were watching too.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned from a coach?

One of the most important things I’ve learned from a coach is to be coachable and willing to change to be successful.

How did you get interested in softball? 

My mom played college softball. She coached my first T-ball team, Belles of the Ball, and I never looked back.

What are your strengths as a player? What are you trying to improve on the most? 

My strengths are my ability to stay calm in pressure situations and to play whatever position my coach needs me to play. Everyday I’m working to improve on my overall play.

What player(s) do you look up to the most? 

Kinzie Hansen and Aubree Munro.

What are your favorite hobbies outside of softball? 

Baking, reading, and playing other sports like volleyball and basketball.

What excites you the most about playing college softball?

What excites me the most is to play at a high-level and get a higher education.
