As Softball America grows its coverage at all levels, we continue our recruiting spotlight series with Zailey Freeman, a shortstop and utility player from Texas. With strong leadership, consistency at the plate, and speed, Freeman excels anywhere put in the field.

What is your favorite travel ball memory?

Winning the 2023 National Alliance Championship.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned from a coach?

Every time I step on the field I think, “Make them remember you.”

How did you get interested in softball? 

My dad, Choo Freeman played professional baseball and is now a coach. So I grew up at the park and in the cages. That’s where my love of the game started at a young age.

What are your strengths as a player? What are you trying to improve on the most? 

My strengths are my athleticism, range, consistency at the plate and strong leadership on the field. I consistently work to improve all aspects of my game.

What player(s) do you look up to the most? 

Maya Brady, Isabella Torres, and Jayda Coleman.

What are your favorite hobbies outside of softball? 

Journalism, writing, and running.

What excites you the most about playing college softball?

The challenge and excitement of that big environment to play the game I love. Also, learning from the best coaches and playing with and against the best players in the game.
