Volts avoid sweep to close out series versus Bandits

The Volts hit home runs inside and out on Sunday in their 7-5 win over the Bandits in Round Rock.
And while the most important ‘home run’ wasn’t one in the box score, the Little League vibes were alive. Bandits starter Emiley Kennedy worked herself into trouble in the second. After earning a strikeout to open the inning, she walked a pair and allowed a single to load the bases. Kennedy induced a dribbler off the bat of Danieca Coffey. But between the former LSU Tiger’s speed and the awkward angle for the lefty pitcher, Kennedy threw the ball over Erin Coffel, who was covering first. Coffey ended up scoring after an overthrow at home for a makeshift grand slam.
Tiare Jennings made things far simpler in the next at-bat. The Oklahoma alum, who had an RBI single, belted a solo shot to right field. Jessie Warren joined in on the action, turning on a pitch for her own home run in the fifth inning.
The Bandits struggled to piece hits together, only having three chances without a hit with runners in scoring position. The Volts combination of Rachel Garcia, Payton Gotshall, Samantha Show and Sam Landry only allowed seven hits in the win.

However, the Bandits nearly did enough with the longball. Skylar Wallace hit a two-run homer in the first inning. Delanie Wisz hit her own solo home run in the sixth. After an error extended the game in the bottom of the seventh, Wallace launched another two-run blast. In the end, it wasn’t enough for the Bandits.
