Between the first two games of the Washington and No. 22 Nebraska series, the teams combined for 32 runs. After the Cornhuskers claimed the first game, the Huskies responded with a dominant performance of their own.

Washington evened the series in run-rule fashion, defeating Nebraska 10-2 in just five innings. Rather than a pitcher’s duel, both lineups exploded offensively.

In the first inning, Washington executed small-ball tactics and capitalized on Nebraska’s early mistakes. Despite recording only two hits, the Huskies pushed across six runs. Nebraska sophomore right-hander Kylee Magee struggled to find her rhythm.

Magee walked the first two batters, then gave up an RBI single to freshman infielder Alexis DeBoer, who sparked the early rally and gave Washington a 1-0 lead.

Magee loaded the bases with another walk, then hit a batter to force in another run before getting pulled. Sophomore right-hander Emmerson Cope took over, but Washington’s bats stayed hot.

Utility player Charity Sevaaetasi smashed a double off the left field wall to drive in two more runs, extending the lead to 4-0. A fielder’s choice and a Nebraska error allowed two additional runs, making it 6-0 by the end of the inning.

In the circle, Washington sophomore Rylee Rehbein made quick work of the second inning with two outs on two pitches. Though the Cornhuskers loaded the bases with Jordy Bahl at the plate, Rehbein walked her to bring in Nebraska’s first run. Freshman Morgan Reimer came in for Rehbein and shut the door, keeping the damage minimal.

DeBoer, who leads the Washington lineup with a .361 batting average, continued her freshman campaign in Saturday’s showdown. The freshman launched her second home run of the series in the second, to add on to Washington’s 7-1 lead.

Washington stayed aggressive in the third, adding three more runs to stretch the lead to 10-1. Sophomore catcher Jaden Glab capped the rally with a two-run line-drive homer.

The Cornhuskers attempted the comeback. A solo blast from Hannah Camenzind put the Cornhuskers within eight. But it was too little, too late. While Nebraska was unable to on Friday, Washington shut the door in five innings.

The Huskies took advantage of small fielding errors and hit the ball hard in Nebraska’s defensive gaps all while not letting up on the gas pedal.

Washington’s win sets the series up for a decisive rubber match on Sunday at 4 p.m. ET.
