13 former Alabama players land invite to NFL Scouting Combine
Like every year, Alabama is losing a lot of talent to the NFL. That’s once again being reflected in the number of former Crimson Tide players being invited to the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine, which will take place in Indianapolis at the end of the month.
On Wednesday morning, it was announced that 13 former Alabama players had received an invite, which is more than any other program. The list includes five players on offense and eight over on defensive side of the football. Unsurprisingly, the secondary has the most representatives with four.

- LB Will Anderson Jr. (Jr.)
- DB Jordan Battle
- DB Brian Branch (Jr.)
- DL DJ Dale
- OL Emil Ekiyor Jr.
- RB Jahmyr Gibbs (Jr.)
- DB DeMarcco Hellams
- TE Cameron Latu
- DB Eli Ricks (Jr.)
- OL Tyler Steen
- LB Henry To’oTo’o
- QB Bryce Young (Jr.)
- DL Byron Young
All five underclassmen who elected to leave early received an invite. Granted, that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise consider four of the five rank amongst the top players available at their respective positions. And Ricks, the only one who isn’t, was once viewed as a potential top-10 pick.
As things sit, Bryce Young, Anderson and Branch are the three Alabama players who are projected to go in the first round. It’s possible for Gibbs to also sneak in there somewhere, but it’s also possible that he could go sometime early on Day 2. Either way, expect him to be one of the first running backs taken in April.

Battle, Byron Young, To’oTo’o and Latu are all possibilities to go somewhere in the second or third round. We could also see Steen climb draft boards, if he can continue to impress like he did down at the Senior Bowl. The Vanderbilt transfer saw time at both tackle and guard down in Mobile. Early on Day 2 is a strong possibility.

He held up well in pass protection, but his calling card will be his run blocking. His 33-inch arm length might cause some NFL teams to view him strictly as an interior guy, but I believe Steen is capable of making that transition. In fact, I think he could turn out to be a better guard than tackle.
