Counting down the Alabama roster three players at a time. Next up for the 2023 series: offensive linemen Elijah Pritchett, Seth McLaughlin and Roq Montgomery.

57 OL Elijah Pritchett

2022: After recovering from a pectoral injury sustained during the summer, Pritchett saw action in two games late in his true freshman campaign. Came off the bench to work at left tackle in wins over Austin Peay and Kansas State.

Of note: With Tyler Steen off to the NFL, Pritchett was the primary option at left tackle during his first run through spring drills at UA. In working with the White (first-team) offense in the A-Day game, Pritchett, who didn’t see projected starters Dallas Turner and Chris Braswell in the scrimmage, struggled with speed off the edge at times. While his inability to sustain technique in the spring game was reason for concern, Pritchett, a recipient of the Ozzie Newsome Most Improved Freshman Award at the close of spring drills, possess the physical tools needed to factor into the first five at some point during his time at Alabama. The question for the redshirt freshman heading into the upcoming season might very well be, who will get there the quickest: Pritchett or true freshman Kadyn Proctor?

56 OL Seth McLaughlin

2022: For the second season in a row, McLaughlin was summoned to replace an ailing Darrian Dalcourt at center. After appearing in three September games, McLaughlin began a run of eight consecutive starts at Arkansas. Picked up player of the week honors from the UA coaching staff following wins over Arkansas, Austin Peay and Auburn.

Of note: Even with Dalcourt back to full health in the spring, it was McLaughlin who worked at center with the first group in March and April. In the A-Day game, he teamed with Dalcourt and Tyler Booker to form the starting interior trio from left to right. The White team offense got solid production from its backs in the scrimmage, with quarterback Jalen Milroe and running backs Jase McClellan and Roydell Williams combining to rush for 125 yards on 17 carries (7.35 yards per carry). Other than a couple of pressures getting home through the right A gap, pass protection on the inside was adequate. For his work in the spring, McLaughlin was among three players to receive the Mal Moore Leadership Award.

55 OL Roq Montgomery

2022: After committing to Georgia early in the process, the Anniston (Ala.) High School product eventually made his way into UA’s haul for the 2023 cycle. According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Montgomery ranked as the No. 27 interior offensive lineman in his graduating class. Enrolled at Alabama in January and took part in spring drills.

Of note: In need of a redistribution of mass accumulated prior to his arrival in Tuscaloosa, the compact and powerful Montgomery made impressive strides physically during his first four months in the program. In April’s A-Day game, he worked in support of Terrence Ferguson at left guard for the Crimson (second-team) offense. Was on the field for the first of two rushing touchdowns by Justice Haynes in the scrimmage. With depth a strength at his position, development — with an emphasis on continued commitment to the sports science program — sits atop Montgomery’s current to-do list.

What BOL wrote about Montgomery upon his signing in December: “While Montgomery projects as an interior lineman on the next level, he more than held his own while working at right tackle in high school. Powerful striker who finishes with an edge — both in the run game and pass protection.”
