One of the members of Alabama’s 2024 class has opted to reopen his recruitment.

Martavious Collins, who committed to the Crimson Tide back on July 20, 2022, announced his decommitment from Bama on Monday. Collins was previously Alabama’s second-longest tenured verbal pledge, behind Perry Thompson (committed on June 24).

“I would like to thank the whole Alabama staff for what they have done for me since my commitment,” Collins wrote in a tweet. “Truly appreciate everyone on the staff for believing in my talents. I am very grateful for the time and energy invested in me. Much love to the Alabama family and best wishes to all.

“After thoughts and prayers, I am going to focus on doing what’s best for my future and my family,” Collins continued. “With that being said, I believe that it is in my best interest to reopen my recruitment.”

Per BamaInsider Director of Recruiting Andrew Bone, his expectation is that Alabama will not further pursue Collins.

With Collins no longer in the fold, Alabama still has a talented group of prospects on their commitment list. Five-star athlete Jaylen Mbakwe, elite quarterback Julian Sayin, and On3 top-100 recruits Perry Thompson and Sterling Dixon remain in the fold.

That’s important for the Tide as there have been several changes on the coaching staff since the four above committed. Over the past few days, Alabama has brought in offensive coordinator Tommy Rees (from Notre Dame) and defensive coordinator Kevin Steele (from Miami).

Sayin spoke highly of Rees after the news of his addition to Bama’s staff broke.

“He was my lead recruiter, and I was heavily considering Notre Dame early in my recruitment,” Sayin told BamaInsider. “I really liked him. I thought he and I meshed well together. He’s a great guy and a great young offensive mind.”

Dixon and Mbakwe also talked with BamaInsider’s Andrew Bone about their reactions to the Steele hire. You can read what they had to say HERE!
