2025 OL Mason Short commits to Alabama
The Alabama Crimson Tide have added their second commitment in the Class of 2025.
On Sunday, Bama earned a verbal pledge from sophomore offensive lineman Mason Short. Short joins five-star wide receiver Ryan Williams as the two verbal pledges in Alabama’s 2025 class.
“When I first stepped on campus, I felt at home,” Short told On3’s Hayes Fawcett. “Especially after I was able to build relationships with the coaching staff. I felt that I could be developed into a better man, a better player, and be held accountable to play at my best against the best. Alabama really does have that factor: To be the best. With Coach Wolford and Coach Saban, I feel like I will be pushed every day to be better and compete.
“I also can see myself walking up to the stadium with AC/DC “Thunderstruck” blasting, looking up at my momma on the balcony!” Short added. “The reason for making my commitment now is simple: I know Alabama is where I want to play and I don’t want to waste anyone’s time. I appreciate all the time and effort all the colleges have given me and I don’t want to feel like I’m leading anyone on.”
As mentioned above, a key component in Alabama’s pursuit of Short is Eric Wolford. The second-year offensive line coach at Bama has prioritized Short for quite some time, with interest being reciprocated.
“Coach Wolf and I talk as often as we can,” Short told Fawcett. “It already seems like he’s been coaching and known me for years even though it’s not been that long. But I have relationships with the majority of the staff. Coach Joe Cox is my area recruiter and he’s been by my school and visited me multiple times. They want me to come in and make an impact on the team. To be able to come in and get after it to win.”
Per the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings, Short is the No. 122 overall sophomore prospect in the country. He is also the sixth-ranked interior offensive lineman in his class and the No. 14 player in Georgia.
Alabama’s winning mentality is appealing to Mason Short
BamaInsider recently had a chance to catch up with Short in person at the Under Armour camp in Atlanta in February. There, he told us that Alabama’s winning mentality in everything they do stands out to him.

“Definitely, the winning mentality,” Short recently told BamaInsider about his interest in the Tide. “They’re trying to be the best. They’ve established that through everything. They do it in getting their meals, getting their recovery, getting after it in practice… I really like that.”
Short has been to Tuscaloosa a handful of times as he was in town four times in 2022 and most recently for their Jan. 28 junior day.
During those visits, he built relationships with multiple 2023 early enrollees at Bama.
“I’ve built a great relationship with Wilkin Formby and Olaus Alinen,” Short said. “They’re really cool guys. They’re early enrollees… they said if I have any questions, I can just contact them.
“I’ve been asking them about the transition,” Short added. “They said it’s intense, of course, going from high school to college. They said just to keep your head down and work, and it’ll go smooth.”
Stay tuned to BamaInsider for more on Short’s commitment to Alabama and what it means for the program.
