4-star DL Khurtiss Perry commits to Alabama over Auburn, others

Alabama is on the board for National Signing Day. After spending most of the morning receiving nation letters of intent for players who were already committed, the Crimson Tide landed its first commitment of the day in four-star defensive lineman Khurtiss Perry.
The Montgomery (Ala.) Park Crossing product picked Alabama over Auburn, Clemson and several other prominent programs. In the end, it was his relationship with Tide coach Nick Saban that made the biggest difference in his recruitment.
“Me and coach Saban have a special bond,” Perry recently told On3’s Chad Simmons. ” It goes back to my sophomore year. Since he has been able to recruit me, he has always checked in on me, made sure my family was doing well, and that made a big impact on me and my decision.”
Perry’s primary recruiter was safeties coach Charles Kelly, but Saban and defensive line coach Freddie Roach were both heavily involved in closing the 6-foot-2, 267-pounder.

The On3 Consensus has Perry rated as the nation’s No. 75 overall prospect, No. 9 defensive lineman and No. 4 player from the state of Alabama. He makes commitment No. 21 after the Crimson Tide lost linebacker Robert Woodyard to Auburn earlier today.
As things sit, Alabama has to top-ranked class with 11 of its 21 commitments ranking amongst the top 100 prospects. Here’s what On3 has to say about Perry:
“Among the quickest and most disruptive defensive linemen in the 2022 cycle. Makes plays behind the line of scrimmage at the highest rate of his contemporaries. Has an elite first step, often streaking into the backfield before offensive linemen are out of their stance. Rushes from a variety of spots on the line, winning inside and the edge. Employs one of the best motors in the cycle to chase down plays. Gives full effort on every snap. Pairs his outstanding feet with finishing ability and a penchant for contact. Lacks prototypical stature and length for the position. Has filled out his frame, but remains to be seen where he will top out from a size perspective. His ultimate size may dictate if he plays inside or as a pass rusher in college.”
