ACC commit flips to the Alabama Crimson Tide

It continues to be flip season for Alabama this week.
On Tuesday, the Crimson Tide flipped California-based safety Peyton Woodyard from the Georgia Bulldogs. Nick Saban and Company didn’t stop there as Bama just landed a commitment from in-state defensive back Red Morgan on Wednesday. Morgan previously committed to the Florida State Seminoles on July 4.

Morgan becomes the second prospect from Central High School in Phenix City (Ala.) to flip to Alabama this recruiting cycle. Former Utah defensive lineman pledge Isaia Faga committed to the Tide back on June 28.
Morgan’s commitment to Bama comes less than two weeks after attending the program’s Champions Cook-Out.
“I’ve been having thoughts about this for a while,” Morgan told On3 Sports‘ Chad Simmons. “When I visited on July 29, I locked in on it…. I left knowing I was going to Alabama.
“I told Bama on Monday,” Morgan continued. “It was a tough decision, but the right decision. Talked to my mom and dad. I told FSU today and that was very hard.”
Morgan collected an offer from Alabama back on March 4. He earned that offer during a junior day visit to the school. Bama, however, did not get Morgan on campus for an official visit during the summer; that is likely to take place sometime this fall.
Another area of intrigue about the Tide for Morgan is the opportunity to be coached by Travaris Robinson.

“On that visit [last month], T-Rob broke it down to me,” Morgan said. “Then, I got more time to know players and commits. I felt at home. I was comfortable.”
Alabama’s proven success with players in the secondary was not overlooked by Morgan in this process.
“I love the history. The DB history,” Morgan said. “Working with Coach Saban will be great. He and that staff produce guys every year. Working with T-Rob and Saban will make me the best I can be.”
In his junior season at Central High, Morgan put up solid numbers for the Red Devils. He tallied 50 total tackles (five tackles for loss), one sack, and a pair of interceptions. The top-50 safety in this class also had one forced fumble and one fumble recovery, as well as four pass breakups. You can watch his junior season highlights HERE.
He’ll now join a defensive back class that features Woodyard, five-star Jaylen Mbakwe, Jameer Grimsley (No. 78 overall, per On3), and Zabien Brown (No. 55 overall, per On3 Industry Rankings). The Tide are also in the mix for legacy prospect Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. The son of former Alabama cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick will announce his commitment on Aug. 18.
Morgan says he’s 100 percent solid in the decision he made this week.
“This commitment is way different,” Morgan said. “I am locked in. It’s Bama. I’m staying home.”
