Counting down the Alabama roster three players at a time. Next up for the 2023 series: defensive back Earl Little II; wide receiver Kendrick Law; and outside linebacker Keanu Koht.

20 DB Earl Little II

2022: A shoulder injury that accompanied him to Tuscaloosa kept Little off the field over the first half of the season. Upon recovery, he saw action in wins over Mississippi State, Austin Peay and Auburn.

Of note: Second-year player who is in the mix at the star position in nickel and dime packages. As evidenced by his performance in April’s A-Day game, Little is adept at covering inside receivers. Working with the White (second-team) defense in the scrimmage, he produced one of the defensive highlights of the day, a diving interception of Ty Simpson pass in the second quarter. Also recorded four tackles and was among those who received the Ozzie Newsome Most Improved Freshman Award post-scrimmage. Duties off the ball — edge setting against the run and quick passing game and as a blitzer — will likely go a long way in determining where Little falls in the pecking order at slot corner.

19 WR Kendrick Law

2022: As a true freshman, Law appeared in 11 games. A significant contributor in the kicking game, where he was honored as a special teams player of the week post-Texas A&M. On the season, Law recorded five tackles while covering kickoffs. At wide receiver, the Louisiana native caught eight passes for 103 yards.

Of note: On a list of best all-around football players on the current roster, Law would rank near the top. Capable of lining up at a number of skill positions, the second-year player looks to be improving by the day. In pulling down two passes for 63 yards in the A-Day game, Law exhibited a combination of athleticism, courage, body control and hand strength. For his efforts during the spring, he joined Isaiah Bond in picking up the Ray Perkins Receiver Award. In addition to his primary position, Law figures to be heavily involved across the special teams spectrum.

19 OLB Keanu Koht

2022: As a redshirt freshman, Koht appeared in four games (Utah State, Texas, Louisiana-Monroe and Mississippi State), with most of his action coming on special teams. For the second season in a row, a lower extremity injury limited Koht’s involvement.

Of note: Beset by injuries during his first two years in the program, Koht has enjoyed a stretch of extended good health. With Dallas Turner and Chris Braswell out for the A-Day game, Koht worked opposite Quandarrius Robinson with the Crimson defense. Koht finished the scrimmage with five tackles and two sacks. As a pass rusher, he displayed the same twitch and long arm move we saw from him on the high school level. Recipient of the Bart Starr Most Improved Player Award at the end of spring drills. With Turner and Braswell expected to work atop the rotation, Koht’s objective for the preseason involves making a push for a situational role as a pass rusher and core contributor on special teams.
