Bama back in top 5 in recruiting rankings following new commitment
There were questions about how Alabama would rebuild their 2025 recruiting class following the departure of all but two commitments in the wake of Nick Saban‘s retirement.
Head coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff have eased those concerns over the past few weeks.
On Wednesday, Bama added top-35 overall junior Darrell “Duke” Johnson to their class. He becomes the fourth prospect to commit to the program in the past three weeks. The other pledges for the Tide this month were Antonio Coleman (flipped from Auburn), Derick Smith, and Zymear Smith.
With Johnson on their commitment list, Alabama has moved up the recruiting rankings. Per the 2025 On3 Industry Football Team Recruiting Rankings, Bama now checks in at No. 5. They moved ahead of Notre Dame and Oregon after the addition of Johnson.
Alabama’s new class score is 93.345 with six pledges in their class. The class score is currently calculated by taking the average of a school’s four highest-rated commitments. Johnson added a significant boost to the class score as his individual rankings score is 94.44, the highest amongst his fellow Bama commits.
The staff’s success in the 2025 cycle thus far further builds upon the momentum they established at the end of the 2024 cycle and the Transfer Portal.

Since arriving on campus, DeBoer and his assistants have landed commitments from (and signed) Five-Star Plus+ receiver Ryan Williams and No. 9 EDGE Noah Carter. They also retained most of the 2024 class that was recruited and signed by Nick Saban.
In the Transfer Portal, they’ve landed Austin Mack, Germie Bernard, Keon Sabb, and Parker Brailsford. They’re also expected to add last year’s starting left tackle Kadyn Proctor back to the fold.
The Crimson Tide will have a busy next couple of months ahead with spring practices and A-Day, which will feature visits from some of the top recruits in the 2025 and 2026 recruiting classes. BamaOnLine will have the latest on the team and recruiting front as the first full spring with DeBoer at the helm continues to move along.
