The highly anticipated college decision of five-star Aiden Sherrell has finally been announced.

Following a multi-week delay of his previously scheduled Aug. 13 decision date, Sherrell committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide on Tuesday. Sherrell chose Nate Oats‘ program over a group of finalists that featured Michigan StateOhio StateOklahoma, and Texas. With today’s announcement, he becomes the first prospect to join Alabama’s 2024 recruiting class.

Sherrell officially visited Bama back in September 2022, and maintained high interest ever since.

“Definitely the playing style,” Sherrell told BamaOnLine in early August when discussing why Alabama is a finalist. “I have a great relationship with the coaches. I definitely see myself fitting in their play style. I’m very versatile. They need very versatile players. They produce NBA guys for sure.

“It’s very fast-paced,” Sherrell added. “It’s similar to an NBA play style, and that’s where I want to be. I’m thinking, ‘Why not be in there early?’ It’s great basketball.”

Per On3’s Class of 2024 rankings, Sherrell is the No. 14 overall recruit in the country. He also checks in as the top-ranked center in his class, though a part of Alabama’s pitch to him was that he wouldn’t be locked in to one position.

“I will play position-less basketball,” Sherrell said of Alabama’s message to him ahead of his announcement. “They’re going to buy into me. They definitely have great coaching. You can see that through Coach Oats.”
