Alabama basketball beats Arkansas State 89-65
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Alabama men’s basketball team moved to 6-2 on Monday night with a 89-65 win over Arkansas State. The result moves Nate Oats and the Crimson Tide to 1-0 versus former UA assistant Bryan Hodgson.
The big news from Monday’s game was star forward Grant Nelson being forced to leave the game early due to a lower-leg injury, according to a UA spokesperson. The timing of the injury is in question, but we should learn more from Oats in the postgame press conference. Prior to his departure, Nelson had scored 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting (66.7%) while being 2-of-4 (50%) from beyond the arc. He also added one rebound, two assists and one block in 16 minutes of action.
Alabama saw four other players reach double-digit points. Veteran guard Mark Sears and freshman forward Jarin Stevenson led the Crimson Tide with 13 points apiece while big man Mohamed Wague added 11 points to go with a team-high seven rebounds and three blocks. Transfer guard Aaron Estrada was the fifth and final player to score in the double digits with 11 points.
