Alabama basketball climbs one spot in first AP Top 25 Poll of February
The Associated Press released its first top 25 rankings of the month of February on Monday, and the Alabama men’s basketball team climbed one spot to No. 3 in the Week 14 poll.
The Crimson Tide (19-3, 8-1 SEC) has won five straight games, including a win over then-No. 14 Mississippi State last week. But Alabama rose in the rankings due to then-No. 3 Iowa State dropping back-to-back games a week ago. Now in the third spot, the Tide is behind only No. 1 Auburn and No. 2 Duke to open the final full month of the regular season.
Alabama is one of nine SEC teams ranked in this week’s AP Top 25 Poll, once again showing the strength of the 16-team league this season. Other SEC schools among the top 25 include Auburn (No. 1), Tennessee (No. 4), Florida (No. 6), Kentucky (No. 14), Missouri (No. 15), Mississippi State (No. 22) and Ole Miss (No. 25).
Alabama is off until Saturday, February 9, when it will travel to Arkansas – which just defeated then-No. 12 Kentucky on the road. Road games against the Hogs and Texas are up next before UA caps the regular season with seven straight games against ranked teams.

“I think we’ve got the toughest second half in the league,” said Alabama head coach Nate Oats on the Crimson Tide Sports Network after beating Georgia on Saturday.
Oats is tied with Wimp Sanderson for the most wins over top-25 opponents in Alabama men’s basketball history. One more win would give him 26 in six seasons – and the record.
