Alabama basketball drops regular season finale to Texas A&M
The Alabama men’s basketball team finished up its regular season on Saturday with a 67-61 loss against Texas A&M. The road defeat now brings the Crimson Tide’s record to 26-5 (16-2 SEC) ahead of the SEC Tournament, which is set to begin on Wednesday.
Saturday’s game was once again a rough one for Alabama, especially when it comes to shooting the basketball. Less than 72 hours after shooting only 43.9% — including 25.8% from the three-point line — the Tide only shot 33.8% (19.4% from beyond the arc) against the Aggies.
“It’s another tough game. That’s four in a row we’ve had come down to the wire,” Alabama coach Nate Oats said following the loss. “A&M made us fight hard for this one, which we expected. We just didn’t quite have enough.”
Freshman Brandon Miller once again led Alabama in points with 19, but he struggled from deep after hitting only 2-of-12 attempts (16.7%). Ironically enough, that 16.7% has been what he’s shot over the last three games, which included 1-of-6 performances against Auburn and Arkansas.

To make matters worse, guard Rylan Griffen is 0-for-11 during that same span. He was shooting 36% prior to this current drought. Veteran Jahvon Quinerly continued his recent scoring output with 12 points, which includes 2-of-6 (33.3%) from three and three assists. He’s averaged 17.3 points per game over the last three games.
Alabama just hasn’t been hitting shots as a whole.
UA has only converted over 50% of its field goal attempts once in its last six games. That stretch includes an ugly road loss against No. 12 Tennessee, a struggle overtime win against a 10-20 South Carolina squad, two come from behind victories against Arkansas and Auburn and another loss to Texas A&M.
Alabama has still found a way to win four of the six, but they’re clearly not playing their best basketball right now. That’s worrisome as the team enters March. The SEC Tournament begins on Wednesday, but Alabama won’t have to play until Friday with back-to-back byes. Stay tuned for more updates from BamaInsider.
