Alabama basketball falls to Notre Dame in NCAA Tournament
The Alabama men’s basketball team came into Friday’s first-round NCAA Tournament matchup as the favorite against Notre Dame. Unfortunately, the Fighting Irish had a different plan, handing the Crimson Tide a 68-74 loss to advance to the Round of 32.
For coach Nate Oats and his Alabama squad, the season is now over with a final record of 19-14 (9-9 SEC).
The major storyline of the game was the early knee injury to starting point guard Jahvon Quinerly. Like most of this Crimson Tide squad, Quinerly had seen his fair share of struggles this season, but he is still one of the top players and his loss was obviously felt.
Oats didn’t want to go into too much detail of the severity of the injury until the MRI results come back.

”The doctor didn’t think it was good, but we don’t want to speculate until we get an MRI,” Oats told reporters after the game.
Prior to the injury, Quinerly was 0-for-2 on two three-point attempts in just three minutes of action. In his absence, freshman five-star JD Davison was asked to step up. He played a total of 36 minutes, scoring 11 points and adding 9 assists while turning the ball over 6 times.
Oats also mentioned that Quinerly had planned to test the NBA draft waters, but added that might change with the unfortunate injury. That will be something to monitor in the coming weeks, especially with Davison potentially leaving, star freshmen Jaden Bradley coming in and the potential return of injured transfer Nimari Burnett.
