Alabama basketball gets 78-76 OT win at South Carolina
Columbia, S.C. — The Alabama men’s basketball team moved to 24-4 (14-1 SEC) on Wednesday night after a thrilling 78-76 overtime win against South Carolina (10-18, 3-12 SEC). Considering the Crimson Tide were 17.5-point favorites coming in, some will call the performance a disappointment. Others will see it as the team once again overcoming obstacles on the road.
Really, this game was the Brandon Miller show.
Obviously, that was already the case going in with all the news over the last 24 hours, but Miller also made a statement on the court. The freshman phenom was responsible for 41 of Alabama’s points while the rest of the team combined for only 37. That gave him a career-high in points. Miller also added eight rebounds, three steals, two blocks and an assist.
The only other Alabama player to score in the double-digits was big man Charles Bediako. The second-year center scored 10 points while also having nine rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Mark Sears and Noah Clowney each put up eight points while Jaden Bradley scored six. Yes, it was that lopsided as far as Miller carrying the team.
Alabama only hit seven of 27 three-point attempts (25.9%). Miller was responsible for six of those on 13 attempts (46.2%). That means every else only hit one of 14 attempts, which came from Sears (1-of-4). It was a great performance from Miller, but it’s also concerning that he wasn’t able to get much help from his teammates.
