TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Rylan Griffen missed Alabama’s regular-season finale against Arkansas with a calf strain. Will the sophomore guard be available to play in the SEC Tournament?

Crimson Tide head coach Nate Oats offered an update on Griffen after Wednesday’s practice.

“Rylan has not gone live yet, but he’s doing more and more basketball activity every day,” Oats said. “We’re hopeful he can possibly play Friday. We’ll put him through more stuff tomorrow and see how he responds. He’ll end up being a game-time decision.”

During Alabama’s overtime win over Arkansas last weekend, Griffen was on the Crimson Tide’s bench but sported a walking boot on his right foot and walked with a bit of a limp.

Back on March 5, Griffen collided with two Florida Gators and fell to the court, favoring his right leg. Oats was unhappy that no foul was called by the officials and picked up a technical foul. Meanwhile, Griffen could not put any pressure on his right leg and needed help off the floor from a teammate and head trainer Clarke Holter. He went straight to the locker room.

Griffen played 25 minutes before his injury and scored three points on 1-of-4 shooting. The sophomore averaged 11.1 points and 3.7 rebounds per game in 30 contests (28 starts), ranks fourth on the team in scoring and shot 45 percent from the field, 38.2 percent from the 3-point line and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line during the 2023-24 regular season.

Alabama earned the No. 3 seed in the SEC Tournament, resulting in a double bye. The Tide won’t play until Friday, March 15, and will face the winner of Florida and Georgia-Missouri. The final game of the day will tip off 25 minutes after Game 9, which is set for 6 p.m. CT.
