TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Alabama men’s basketball team is staying local for the start of the NCAA Tournament. After beating Texas A&M 82-63 to win the SEC Tournament on Sunday, the Crimson Tide landed the No. 1 overall seed. They also landed a spot in the South Region, which means they’ll play in Birmingham.

This is now Alabama’s third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance under Nate Oats.

The Crimson Tide made it as a No. 2 seed in 2021, but lost to No. 11 seed UCLA in the Sweet Sixteen. Then as a 6-seed in 2022, Alabama lost to No. 11 seed Notre Dame in the opening round after Jahvon Quinerly tore his ACL less than four minutes into the game.

Alabama is set to play the winner of the No. 16 seed play-in game, which will include Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Southeastern Missouri State in the first round. That game is scheduled for Thursday, March 16, and will broadcast on a soon-to-be-announced channel.

If Alabama were to win on Thursday, it’d face off against the winner of a first-round matchup between No. 8 seed Maryland and No. 9 seed West Virginia. Of course, that game would also be held in Birmingham. Below you’ll find the entire 68-team bracket for the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
