Alabama basketball will face Kennesaw State as a part of its 2025-26 non-conference schedule, per a report from Rocco Miller. The game will take place on Sunday, Dec. 21 and will be played at Propst Arena in Huntsville.

Kennesaw State is led by head coach Antoine Pettway, a former player and assistant coach for the Crimson Tide. He played in Tuscaloosa from 2000-2004, winning an SEC regular season championship in 2002 and being a member of the program’s first-ever Elite Eight run in 2004.

He joined the Crimson Tide as an assistant coach in 2008 under his head coach, Mark Gottfried, and remained in the program under all three subsequent head coaches: Anthony Grant, Avery Johnson and current coach Nate Oats. Pettway’s last season at Alabama was 2023, where the Tide earned the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.

He was hired by Kennesaw State before the 2023-24 season and his entering his third year with the school. Last year he led the Owls to a 19-14 record, and improvement over the 15-16 record his first season.

Kennesaw State is the third team led by a former assistant that Alabama will face this season, joining games against Austin Claunch’s UTSA (Dec. 7) and Bryan Hodgson’s South Florida (Date TBA).

The game also serves as a homecoming of sorts for Pettway, who played professional basketball for the Huntsville Flight (now Cleveland Charge) of the NBA D-League (now G-League) from 2004-2005.

Oats has once again put together an incredibly difficult non-conference schedule, consisting of marquee games against St. John’s, Purdue, Illinois and Arizona among others. The season is set to begin on Nov. 3 with a home game against North Dakota.
