Alabama breaks record for most 3s in single NCAA Tournament game

NEWARK, N.J. – Alabama broke the record for most 3-pointers made in a single game in NCAA Tournament history on Thursday night. With 7:41 left to play in the second half of its Sweet 16 matchup with BYU, the Crimson Tide made its 22nd triple of the evening. That 3 passed Loyola Marymount’s 21 against Michigan in the 1990 tournament for the record.
Mark Sears gave Alabama its 22nd 3-pointer, and it was the senior guard’s ninth of the contest. Five different Crimson Tide players made at least one three to break the record. Sears led the charge, but Aden Hollway (6-12) and Chris Youngblood (4-9) were big helps.

Sears’ three gave Alabama a 97-76 lead at the under-8 media timeout. With a win over BYU in the Sweet 16, the Tide would advance to the Elite Eight, where it would face either Duke or Arizona on Saturday, March 29, at Prudential Center. It would be Alabama’s second straight Elite Eight – a first in program history – and third all-time appearance.
*** Update: Youngblood knocked down Alabama’s 24th 3-pointer with 3:39 to go, giving UA a 103-83 lead, and setting a school record. The old record was 23 set against LSU in 2021.
