Alabama CB Josh Jobe will miss postseason with foot injury
Kool-Aid McKinstry has already seen significant snaps over the last three games, including two starts against Auburn and Georgia. Now it looks like he’ll once again be needed in a larger role for the College Football Playoff.
On Thursday afternoon, On3’s Matt Zenitz broke the news that one of Alabama’s starting cornerbacks, Josh Jobe, underwent surgery on his injured football this week and would miss the postseason.
Jobe has been dealing with turf toe for a significant portion of the season. After missing the LSU game, the senior returned against Arkansas but was ultimately benched due to the injury.
With Jalyn Armour-Davis already dealing with a hip injury that’s forced him to miss the last two games, it will be interesting to see where Alabama turns opposite McKinstry. Granted, Armour-Davis could be back at practice soon, but that’s no guarantee.
“He’s been able to do just a limited amount of things,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said of Armour-Davis prior to the SEC championship. “He doesn’t play a position where if he’s not full-speed, he could be expected to play. But we’re still going to sort of look at him on a day-to-day basis, too, and see how he progresses. So we’ll just have to wait and see.”

In all likelihood, Khyree Jackson will step into the No. 3 role out on the perimeter. And if Armour-Davis is forced to miss the first round against Cincinnati, we could see the former JUCO corner move into a starting role.
It’s unfortunate that Marcus Banks left the team and entered the transfer portal following the LSU game. He had already gotten one start this season and could’ve been in line for an increased workload with Jobe — and potentially Armour-Davis — out.
In 13 games this season, Jobe had 38 tackles and two interceptions. He entered the year as a preseason second-team All-American. There have been some struggles along the way, but he’s still been Alabama’s most experienced corner.
Stay tuned for more updates on the cornerback depth from Bama On3.
