Alabama remains outside of top 10 in AP Poll despite win over A&M

Alabama Football (5-1, 3-0 SEC) is still sitting at No. 11 in the latest edition of the AP Poll, which was released soon after the Coaches Poll on Sunday. The Crimson Tide went into College Station on Saturday afternoon and came away with a 26-20 win over a good Texas A&M squad (4-2, 2-1 SEC). Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to make for UA to make its first appearance in the top 10 since before its Week 2 loss to Texas.

Why? Well, undefeated Oklahoma made a big jump (from No. 12 to No. 5) after beating Texas 34-30 on a last-second touchdown. And with the Longhorns beating the Crimson Tide by double digits inside Bryant-Denny Stadium only a few weeks ago, one loss to a now top-5 team isn’t enough to rank them lower. That decision makes sense to a degree, but there’s no questioning if UA is moving in the right direction since that loss to Texas.

Now, Alabama will have three consecutive home games (with a BYE week mixed in). Things will start with an 11 a.m. CT kickoff against Arkansas (2-4, 0-3 SEC) next Saturday before No. 19 Tennessee (4-1, 1-1 SEC) in Week 8 and No. 22 LSU (4-2, 3-1 SEC) in Week 10 following a weekend off.
