Alabama WR Shazz Preston plans to enter transfer portal
Alabama wide receiver Shazz Preston plans to enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal. That news was first broken by On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Tuesday evening. Preston is the first player to enter since the Crimson Tide’s 27-20 loss to Michigan in the Rose Bowl on Monday.
Not only that, but this decision also means Preston is the second UA wide receiver to leave since the transfer portal opened up back in early December. Ja’Corey Brooks was the first, and he’s since committed to play for Louisville. Where will Preston end up? Time will tell, but he’s still got upside as a former top-50 recruit from the 2022 cycle.

In two seasons at Alabama, Preston played 36 snaps in eight games on offense. He didn’t have any catches throughout his brief career in Tuscaloosa, but he also contributed on special teams. Coming out of high school, the 2022 On3 Industry Rankings had the now 6-foot, 202-pound pass-catcher rated as the No. 50 recruit nationally, No. 6 wide receiver and No. 5 player from the state of Louisiana.

The NCAA transfer portal is currently in its first of two periods. After beginning on Monday, Dec. 4, most players around the country had a 30-day window lasting until Jan. 2 to enter. But with Alabama just wrapping up its season after participating in the College Football Playoff, the window for them has been extended until Jan. 6. The second undergraduate window opens on April 14 and will run through April 30.
In total, there have been six Alabama players to enter the portal, if you include former wide receiver Thaiu Jones-Bell who wasn’t on the Crimson Tide’s roster this season. You can expect more departures before the Saturday deadline, however.
ALABAMA PLAYERS IN THE PORTAL
Tyler Buchner, QB (Notre Dame, lacrosse)
Thaiu Jones-Bell, WR
Ja’Corey Brooks, WR (Louisville)
Anquin Barnes, DL (Colorado)
Isaiah Hastings, DL
Shazz Preston, WR
