Alabama lands commitment from 2023 quarterback Eli Holstein
It’s been a whirlwind of a recruitment for four-star quarterback Eli Holstein. Holstein committed to Texas A&M last June, de-committed a couple of months ago, and has since taken multiple visits to Alabama and LSU.
On Tuesday, Holstein announced he has found his home for the next three-to-five years.
Moments ago, Alabama landed a commitment from the sought-after signal caller out of Louisiana. Holstein becomes the first offensive pledge for the Crimson Tide in their 2023 class.
The path to getting Holstein on board was not always an easy one for Nick Saban’s program. They had to recruit him through his Texas A&M commitment, while also simultaneously pursuing Five-Star Plus+ target Arch Manning.
At the end of the day, Alabama’s staff did an excellent job of constructing a strong relationship with Holstein.
“I feel really comfortable with them,” Holstein previously told On3’s Scott Schrader. “I have a really good relationship with Coach [Bill] O’Brien and Coach [Pete] Golding. Coach Golding and my head coach have a good relationship. They go back all the way to when Coach Pete was at Southern Miss. So, they’ve known each other for a really long time.”

Per the 2023 On3 Consensus, Holstein is the No. 69 overall player in his class, the No. 8 quarterback, and the sixth-ranked prospect in Louisiana. He joins a 2023 class for Alabama that features five-star prospect Jahlil Hurley, as well as four-star cornerback Elliot Washington and four-star EDGE Yhonzae Pierre.

“Productive passer with a well-rounded skill set,” On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power wrote. “Physically developed and filled out, checking in at 6-foot-1.5 and around 225 pounds with a 10-inch hand. Shows a good arm in camp settings and on Friday nights. Excels in the short and intermediate passing game. Able to quickly read defenders’ leverage and deliver accurate passes. Strong in the RPO game. Well-schooled and capable of going through multiple progressions.. Tests as a very strong athlete in the combine setting. Grew around two inches over the course of his junior year.
“Plays for a top high school program in Louisiana and helped his team to a state title as a junior,” Power continued. “Productive and efficient over the course of the season, though his efficiency dipped a bit in the playoffs. Showed the ability to pick up yards with his legs on scrambles and broken plays. Can continue improving on his deep ball and vertical passing. Also has room to improve mechanically – notably his posture and lower body flexibility within his throwing motion.”
