Alabama Crimson Tide player enters the transfer portal
Yet another member of Alabama’s football program has entered the transfer portal following spring practice.
Over the past few weeks, the Crimson Tide saw redshirt senior Stephon Wynn and second-year defensive back Kaine Williams enter the portal after spring ball ended. Now, On3 Senior College Football Reporter Matt Zenitz is reporting true freshman Dayne Shor is in the portal.
Shor, a native of Alpharetta (Ga.), was a member of an Alabama class that finished second nationally on the 2022 Consensus Football Team Recruiting Rankings. Per the 2022 On3 Consensus, Shor was the No. 543 player in the country and the No. 33 offensive tackle in his class.
The Crimson Tide landed a commitment from Shor back on July 31, 2021. Nick Saban’s program beat out the likes of Florida, Georgia, Oklahoma, Oregon, and others for the 6-foot-5, 308-pound prospect.
The transfer portal gives, and takes away, for Alabama
The transfer portal has worked both ways for Alabama.
It has taken away talent from the team, as evidenced in the past few weeks. They lost a veteran in Wynn, and are dealing with departures of a couple of young players (Shor and Williams) who left very early on in their collegiate careers.
Along with the players mentioned above, Alabama has also lost a few others this year to the portal. Those include Agiye Hall, Caden Clark, Javon Baker, Shane Lee, and others in 2022.

While it’s never ideal to have scholarship players depart from your program, Alabama has added a lot of talent to the team using the portal.
Just two weeks ago, the staff received a commitment from speedy Louisville wideout transfer Tyler Harrell. That decision came shortly after Vanderbilt offensive tackle transfer Tyler Steen committed to the school.
Alabama also had a six-week stretch in which they landed Eli Ricks, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Jermaine Burton. Each of those players are expected to be important contributors to the Crimson Tide this season.
The transfer portal has its benefits and its consequences, but Saban and Company are seeing incredible success with this tool thus far.
