Alabama DB coach Travaris Robinson hired as co-DC at Georgia
Alabama defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson is leaving Tuscaloosa for a job at Georgia.
The Bulldogs announced on Saturday morning that Robinson had been hired as their safeties coach and co-defensive coordinator. BamaOnLine reported Saturday that Robinson received a lot of interest from other schools, even before Nick Saban retired, and Georgia was one of the programs pushing the hardest. While new head coach Kalen DeBoer continues to figure out his new staff at Alabama, Robinson couldn’t wait and is now Athens-bound.
Robinson was in Year 2 with the Crimson Tide, and after coaching the cornerbacks in 2022, he took over the whole defensive backfield this past year. Robinson has a strong relationship with Will Muschamp, who was UGA’s safeties and co-defensive coordinator for the past two years. He worked under Muschamp at Florida (2011-14) and South Carolina (2016-20).
Muschamp is moving off the field, opening a spot for Robinson on the staff at Georgia.
Highly regarded within the Alabama program, Robinson was one of the Tide’s top recruiters. A month ago before the Rose Bowl, defensive coordinator Kevin Steele – who announced he will retire after one season back in Tuscaloosa – praised Robinson, who Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin publicly said he believed was calling the Alabama defense rather than Steele.

“Coach Robinson is very, very smart. Very smart,” Steele said. “He is a great teacher. He’s a great recruiter. He has very good relationships with people. He’s got really good people skills, is a great communicator. He has a bright future.
“I personally think – this is my personal opinion – I think in the very near future, he will be somebody’s head coach and be very successful doing it.”
