Alabama duo named to Sporting News preseason All-American team
The Sporting News announced its preseason All-America team on Tuesday, and two Alabama players were first- or second-team selections ahead of the 2023 college football season.
Cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry was named to the first team, while offensive tackle JC Latham landed on the second team. McKinstry and Latham both were recognized by the Associated Press’ preseason All-America team on Monday, along with edge rusher Dallas Turner.
Ohio State led all schools with five overall selections, including four first-teamers, while Georgia and Penn State had four. Alabama was one of seven schools – along with Cincinnati, Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Washington – with two players on the list.
Sporting News is one of five outlets used to determine consensus All-American status, along with American Football Coaches Association, Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America and Walter Camp Foundation. If three select a player to their first team, he receives consensus honors. If he is named by all five, he is a unanimous selection.
