Alabama announced its team captains for the 2024 season on Tuesday.

After the Crimson Tide’s 16 preseason practice, head coach Kalen DeBoer revealed which four players had been voted permanent captains by their teammates. They were offensive lineman Tyler Booker, linebacker Deontae Lawson, quarterback Jalen Milroe and safety Malachi Moore. Milroe and Moore were both voted captains of Alabama’s 2023 team.

This is a new development at Alabama. During Nick Saban’s tenure, players voted on captains after the regular season, and they were announced at the team’s awards banquet on the Sunday after the SEC Championship Game. But now, it occurred before the season.

In addition to being leaders, Alabama’s captains participate in the coin toss before games. They are celebrated on the UA campus, as every spring, their hand and cleat prints are immortalized in cement in the shadow of Denny Chimes, along with all of the past captains.
