TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — As of Tuesday morning, Nick Saban is once again the highest paid head coach in college football. That news comes as a result of the University of Alabama board of trustees approving another contract on Monday for the seven-time national championship-winning coach.

Needless to say, the committee unanimously approved the new contract.

Saban will now be leading the Crimson Tide program through the 2030 season, which means his pay raise also came with a one year extension on the new deal. As of last season, he was averaging $10.6 million per year. Had he kept that average salary, it would have slated him at No. 2 right behind Georgia’s Kirby Smart.

Now, Saban will once again top the list for highest paid coaches in college football.

According to Steve Berkowitz, he will net $10.7 million in 2022 and the figure will continue to increase to $12.7 million by the year 2030. In addition to Saban, athletic director Greg Byrne, assistant men’s basketball coach Antoine Pettway and gymnastics head coach Ashley Johnston all received new contracts as well.

During that time, the Crimson Tide have won six national championships while also making the title game in nine of those 15 seasons. Alabama’s impressive run with conference championships, winning percentage, All-Americans and first-round draft picks are all equally as impressive.

Byrne has landed a 5% raise and an additional three years that will keep him in Tuscaloosa through 2029. His role working alongside Saban and the football program has been well-documented. Plus, Byrne has been proactive in landing other key coaches such as Johnston and men’s basketball coach Nate Oats.

His extension is well-deserved.
