Alabama continues to put the finishing touches on its first coaching staff under new head coach Kalen DeBoer. Things got started on Monday with Chris Kapilovic coming over from Baylor to coach the offensive line. Soon after, we saw Georgia Southern offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Bryan Ellis join the staff.
Now sources have confirmed with BamaOnLine that Baylor’s Christian Robinson is set to be the new linebackers coach. That makes him the second coach DeBoer has hired away from the Bears in as many days. Robinson does seem like a good fit, especially from a recruiting standpoint.
Not only does he have experience in the state of Texas, but he’s also spent ample time in the SEC, as the former Georgia linebacker has had stints at Georgia (2013-14), Ole Miss (2015-16), Mississippi State (2017), Florida (2018-21) and Auburn (2022). The time spent at Georgia, Ole Miss and Mississippi State was as a graduate assistant, but Robinson was the linebackers coach at Florida and the linebackers coach/run-game coordinator at Auburn.

This move comes on the heels of news breaking that William Inge was electing to join Josh Heupel on Tennessee’s staff. Inge was previously Washington’s co-defensive coordinator under DeBoer, and he had followed his boss to Tuscaloosa to be Alabama’s linebackers coach. With a large portion of the staff having somewhat limited experience recruiting in the SEC, Robinson feels like a better fit than Inge.
Robinson hails from the state of Georgia and spent four seasons (2009-12) playing for the Bulldogs. Some of the linebackers who have played under him include Vosean Joseph, Ventrell Miller and Mohamoud Diabate at Florida, as well as Owen Pappoe and Cam Riley at Auburn. He’s got a good reputation on the recruiting trail, so expect him to make an impact as far as getting — and keeping — talent in Tuscaloosa.
