Live Updates: Vanderbilt 40, Alabama 35; Final
NASHVILLE – No. 1 Alabama (4-0, 1-0 SEC) will face Vanderbilt (2-2, 0-1) this afternoon in its first SEC road game of the season at FirstBank Stadium (3:15 p.m. CT on SEC Network).
The Crimson Tide and Commodores will share the field for the 86th time today. Alabama leads the all-time series, 63- 18-4, including a 29-13-2 mark in Nashville. Alabama has won its last 23 matchups with Vanderbilt, including the most recent pairing on Sept. 4, 2022, in Tuscaloosa – a 55-3 Crimson Tide win. Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer has never faced the Commodores in his career, while Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea is 0-1 in his only shot.

— Justin Jefferson, who was ruled a game-time decision, is dressed out and going through warmups. He’s currently working with the second group during full-team drills.
FIRST QUARTER
— Alabama wins the toss and elects to defer to the second half. Vandy will receive the opening kickoff.
— Vanderbilt picks up a first down on a 14-yard catch and run by AJ Newberry. Dores are in UA territory.
— Diego Pavia avoids the rush and finds Eli Stowers for a 17-yard gain. Vanderbilt is now in the red zone.
TOUCHDOWN: Vandy 7, Alabama 0 (8:46)
— Sedrick Alexander powers his way in for a 7-yard TD.
TOUCHDOWN: Vandy 13, Alabama 0 (8:03)
— Vanderbilt returns a tipped pass for a 24-yard pick-six. The PAT was a doink, at least.
— Jalen Milroe hits CJ Dippre down the seam for a 46-yard pickup. Tide is down to the Vandy 30.
— Josh Cuevas stayed down after taking a big shot. He held onto the ball for a first down but received attention from Alabama trainers. He popped up and is in the tent.
TOUCHDOWN: Vandy 13, Alabama 7 (4:22)
— Jam Miller lights up the scoreboard with an 8-yard run.
— Alabama forces a punt from the ‘Dores’ own 47. Ryan Williams is back deep to receive it.
— Actually, Alabama had two Nos. 2s on the field (Williams, Zabien Brown) at the same time, and the penalty results in a first down for Vandy.
SECOND QUARTER
— Face-mask penalty on a Pavia run gives Vandy the ball at UA’s 22.
— Diego Pavia’s third-down pass is incomplete, but a roughing the passer penalty keeps the Vandy drive alive. Flags have been costly on this possession for Alabama.
TOUCHDOWN: Vandy 20, Alabama 7 (9:32)
— Sedrick Alexander scores his second TD (1 yard).
— Emmanuel Henderson fumbles the kickoff. Vanderbilt recovers it and will take over at the Alabama 15. Play is under review.
— Fumble is overturned. Officials rule Emmanuel Henderon’s elbow was down. Alabama avoids catastrophe.
— After a sack on second down, Jalen Milroe finds Ryan Williams along the UA sideline for a much-needed first down.
— After review, Ryan Williams never had possession of the ball, and Alabama will punt from its own 11. Vandy fans chanting “overrated.”
— Diego Pavia’s first incompletion comes at the 4:21 mark of the 2Q. He started out 5-5 for 65 yards.
FIELD GOAL: Vandy 23, Alabama 7 (4:10)
— Alabama gets a stop, but Vanderbilt’s Brock Taylor boots a 51-yard through the uprights.
— On 3rd and 5, Kobe Prentice makes a first-down catch. He hangs onto it after taking a shot. Targeting was called on the Commodores, but it was overturned by the officials.
